Inmate Search in Nevada

Searching for inmates is available online for many states. The State Department of Corrections in 33 different states participates in this program, referred to as the Inmate Locator. This is useful as a tool to gather specific information on inmates, such as their current whereabouts.

The participating states provide independent websites where individuals may search for inmates using a partial name, a full name, a birth date, or incarceration number, depending upon the particular website. The database of inmates may include those who have recently been released from prison until the system is updated, all inmates- past and present, or only currently incarcerated inmates, depending upon the state’s guidelines.

Inmate location is a free service provided to law enforcement agencies, as well as to the general public, in the interest of public safety.

To acquire access to the database for inmates in the state of Nevada, use the following link: http://www.doc.nv.gov/ncis/search.php.

You will be directed to the initial search page of the Nevada Department of Correctional Services. The subheading for this page is “Inmate Search Form.” Underneath this subheading is a disclaimer indicating that the information contained within this database is raw data and subject to errors. It explains that the database should not be used by law enforcement agencies as an official record.

Directly below this statement are search boxes for you to enter the inmate’s ID number, the inmate’s last name, and the inmate’s first name. Entering an ID number will override any names that are entered and will be used as the search criterion. Therefore, if you are using the inmate’s ID number, only enter that information. If you want to search by name, then do not include the ID number.

At the bottom of the search boxes, a link is provided that will provide information and tips on using Nevada’s inmate search website. It includes information on using the inmate’s ID number, as explained above. Also, it suggests entering only the first few letters of a name when you are unsure of the spelling. This will generate a more inclusive search.

Additionally, it provides contact information for those individual’s who have questions concerning the inmates or requests for further information. You may contact the Nevada Department of Correctional Services office of Public Information at the following phone number: 775-887-3367 or AT the following website: ndocinfo@ndoc.state.nv.us.

Questions or problems concerning the site can be addressed at the following link: ndochelp@ndoc.state.nv.us.

On the left hand side of the page, links are provided for the following: glossary of terms, download information, online search form, online search help/how to, State of Nevada homepage, State purchasing opportunities, silver source forms, governor’s executive budget, and an adobe acrobat download.

Once you have entered the data that you are conducting your search with, click the button labeled “Search Database.”

After a few seconds, you will receive results. The information will appear on a new page that is identical to the one previously described, with the exception that now it includes information on inmates. The results are presented in a grid like chart and will include from left to right: the ID Number, first name, initial, last name, and date of birth. For more information, the ID number is a live link that you can click.

If you click on an ID number, a new page will be generated. It will include the same disclaimer at the top of the information. The information included for each inmate is presented in three grid like charts: Identification and Demographics, Sentencing, and Custody.

In the Identification and Demographics chart the following information is listed:
• Inmate name
• Gender
• Date of birth
• Height
• Build
• Hair color
• Aliases
• NDOC ID
• Ethnicity
• Approximate age
• Weight
• Complexion
• Eye color

Additionally, a space is available for a digital photo. However, a photo is only displayed in the event of an escape.

The Sentencing chart will include the following information:
• Offense
• Sentence level
• Sentence name
• Minimum sentence
• Maximum sentence
• Parole eligibility
• Mandatory review
• Expiration date

Each of these headings is a live link that can be used to access a description and additional information.

The Custody chart includes the following information:
• County of commitment
• Offense group
• Current Institution
• Commitment code
• On parole agenda
• Custody level

At the bottom of this chart, there is a link to access information concerning visitation. The days and hours of visitation for each Inmate facility in Nevada are listed along with a
brief description of the facility. A telephone number is provided in some cases, but you should request “visiting” before directing any questions.

If the inmate for whom you searched was not located, the results will come back with the closest matches. In fact, the results might match your search criterion with only the first initials of both names.
